Traveling in Times of the Pandemic: Resources and Answers

Traveling in Times of the Pandemic: Resources and Answers
Category_Travel Tips>Safety & Health

Traveling or not traveling: a question so much more difficult to answer now that the world is afflicted by a seemingly endless pandemic.

The decision to travel or not is very personal, so I do not advise either here. It’s up to you to make your own decision, and quite honestly, I don’t even know what to do myself!

But one thing is certain, a good decision is based on facts and verified information. So I wanted to list for you here all the sources of information I have found to date on which I rely myself to decide whether or not to travel, where and when.

Please note that the information found below is primarily for Canadians. Also, the situation changes all the time (!!), so check them regularly.

Government of Canada official website

The Government of Canada provides advice for every country in the world. These notices influence whether your insurance will cover you abroad, so they are very important to check.

It is important to read all the information carefully, because sometimes there are notices issued for different parts of a country, such as a province where it is very dangerous to travel, but the rest of the country is safe.

Click here for the official government of Canada notices, available in English and French.

CDC’s Travel Health Notices

On this page, you will find the notices of the CDC, Center for Disease Control and Prevention, regarding your health and the state of Covid-19 in the world.

For example, they will advise you to avoid non-essential travel to virtually every country in the world due to the pandemic (Level 3 alert).

The Level 2 notice, i.e. taking high precautions, lists countries where the situation is better controlled and therefore less dangerous for travelers.

Finally, the level 1 alert, “take normal precautions”, also lists countries where there are hardly any cases of Covid-19. And yes, there are countries where it is safer to travel, even now during this pandemic.

COVID-19 Symptom Self-Assessment Tool

To know if you should be tested, test yourself here with this quick survey and you’ll know if your symptoms are related to the Covid-19.

IAMAT Covid-19 Travel Regulations Map

You will find on this page a map of the world, and by clicking on the countries, you can check their own entry requirements, up to a maximum of 10 countries on the free version.

It’s fun that it’s a map of the world, so you can easily see the countries where no one can enter and those that accept almost everyone lol

Click here to see the entry requirements of all countries.

IAMAT COVID-19 Government Public Health Mitigation Measures

Here you can see the policies implemented by countries to manage the crisis, travel restrictions, and quarantines required. For example, we see that in Canada, when we return from our trip, we have to be in quarantine for 14 days.

Click here to view the policies, restrictions, and quarantines of the different countries.

I will keep this list up to date to the best of my ability so that you always have the full information in hand! And if you know of another reliable source, please let me know in the comment section below!
