Activities
Majorca is arguably the pick of the Balearic Islands when it comes to family holidays. Not only will you benefit from the balmy Mediterranean temperatures felt here throughout the year, but there are plenty of family-friendly tourist spots to ensure the dreaded boredom never sets in.
What better place to let their imaginations run wild than at Palma Aquarium? Home to over 8,000 animals, this attraction is a must-see for any family visiting the island. The experts working there also provide exhibitions on the sustainability of sea life, exploring topics like ocean protection and marine animal protection. Whilst the children are probably more eager to see the exotic sea life that call the aquarium home, this is a great place to open their minds and perhaps find a new passion.
Another water-based activity that will be top of any child’s holiday wish-list is the waterpark. There are three to choose from in all, and the crown for biggest and best on the island is hotly disputed amongst locals and visitors alike. If you’re based in and around the Palma area on the southwestern coast, perhaps give the kids a little nudge in the direction of Aqualand or Western Waterpark to save you a little on the taxi fares. Hidropark is the other of the big three waterparks in Majorca, and is found in Alcudia to the north.
Accommodation
Unfortunately, when the kids are in charge, they aren’t going to be looking for the hotels with the best spas or consider the most convenient locations. However, perhaps more by luck than judgement, they will likely choose a hotel that caters to both theirs and the grown ups’ needs.
There are countless family friendly hotels which offer the best of both worlds, with facilities to help mum and dad relax whilst the little ones are kept busy with the kids’ clubs and play areas.
Some of the best in-house amenities on the island can be found at Hoposa Villaconcha Hotel which is tucked away on the northeastern coast near the town of Pollença. Here you will find an extensive entertainment programme geared towards little travellers, as well as the water slides, ball park and many other attractions which will have the kids begging to stay a little longer.
Food
Foreign food can sometimes be a concern for parents of fussy little eaters. But fear not, Majorca has a mix of eclectic eateries to choose from, with both local and international dishes found on menus across the island.
One of the most popular restaurants for travelling families is Santosha in central Palma. The menu here serves brunch and lunch dishes, and the restaurant features a children’s play area, perfect to keep the little ones entertained whilst you wait for your coffee and mashed avocado. The food here is generally suited to more health-conscious visitors, but you will also find pancakes and chocolate sauce on the menu, which the kids will no doubt enjoy.
When it comes to dinner time, is there a better crowd-pleaser than a round of pizzas? If you find yourself in the Santa Ponsa region, follow your noses to Restaurante Pizzeria Pino, where you will find 30 different types of pizza on their extensive menu. The pizza is delicious and affordable, so everybody will be happy!
